The Primary Education Completion PEC and Junior School Certificate JSC Exams for fifth and Eighth graders will be held this year too after the cabinet reject a proposal to abolish the PEC exams. In Bangladesh Primary and Eighth grade education and examination system is running under the supervision of Ministry of primary and Mass Education.
But regular cabinet meeting chairperson PM Sheikh Hasina on Monday decided to against the approving to abolish the PEC exams and called for re submission of the proposal after further evaluation.
The Proposal will be resubmitted before cabinet after through assessment.The Current system will remain until the new proposal is approved by cabinet. The government on May 18 decided to upgrade primary education to eighth grade instead of up to fifth in accordance with the National Education Policy.
The PEC test was introduced at the fifth grade in schools in 2009 following a Cabinet decision. The next year, Ebtedayee tests were introduced for madrasa students.Those at the eighth grade in schools and madrasas, the public exams they appear in are the Junior School Certificate (JSC) Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) tests.
Earlier, there was a separate exam at the fifth grade for scholarships but the PEC and Ebtedayee replaced that
